The PPJPC is a membership organization which relies almost exclusively on individuals for the energy and finances to keep our doors open and projects moving ahead. There are many ways to support the PPJPC. We hope you find a way that works for you.
Faith Partners for Justice & Peace
For the past 32 years, our most consistent support has come from the faith community. This past year, two congregations have stepped forward to make a donation to the PPJPC and help form a "Faith Partners" council to network activists and find new ways to collaborate. First Congregational United Church of Christ and All Souls Unitarian-Universalist Church have active social concerns committees and invite other congregations to join in the network. Our current project is circulating a statement by the Pikes Peak Inter-Religious Clergy Alliance in support of prayer by any and all Americans who seek it. The statement is below. For more information on our "Faith Partners," contact Steve Saint at director@ppjpc.org.
Open Letter to People of all Faith Traditions,
In America, we honor and protect everyone's right to worship according to their own conscience. Any place that is dedicated to religious worship is a place to be protected by the whole community, because the freedom to create such a place is fundamental to our existence as a nation. If anyone threatens that freedom, it's up to us as a nation to come to the defense of those who are threatened, and to attempt to re-establish peace and understanding.
We are no strangers to religious persecution. We recognize the request to build a place of worship “here” but not “there” as a breach of a fundamental American principle: in America, we don't tell anyone where they can and cannot pray.
We believe that there is no more sacred bond than the relationship between people and God found in prayer. For political figures to infringe on this most intimate relationship by telling citizens where, when, or how they should pray is injurious to all Americans and endangers our freedom of religious expression. Our nation’s Founding Fathers recognized the freedom to worship as the most hallowed and self-evident of rights.
We believe it is time to shine light on the hypocrisy of politicians and pundits who expound on the freedom of religion for their chosen sects while seeking to tell our Muslim brothers and sisters where they can and cannot worship. Using a political podium to bully a religious community threatens one of our most fundamental freedoms.
We support the rights of all Americans to worship in their chosen place, through a climate of respect, dignity and peace.
Community Shares
Support Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission through Community Shares of Colorado: If your place of employment has a Community Shares Program, consider donating to the Commission through this workplace program (www.cshares.org). It’s a great help to the Commission! You can help even more by telling your co-workers about their opportunity to support the Commission.
Planned Giving
We also plan to implement a Planned Giving Program, which will allow you and others to leave a legacy to peace by securing the future of the Justice and Peace Commission. We invite you to recognize the Commission in your will, in trusts, life insurance policies and/or other means that can benefit both you and the Commission Peace Fund
Support 31 years of nonviolent social change! Pledge a monthly or quarterly gift to the Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission to support our educational programs and public witness. We are counting on you to create a reliable income from which to continue our work, plan future endeavors, and continue to grow.
Our hope is that 200 members will make a $5.00 monthly pledge, 100 of our members will make a $10.00 monthly pledge and so on. This pledge can be mailed in or dropped off. Thank you for considering this most important way of sustaining the Commission.
Your gift is critical to our ongoing work for social justice and nonviolence.
