Vision
We intend to live these words as an organization by 2008:
“The Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission is a transforming presence for justice, peace, nonviolence, and a life-sustaining future. We are a vital and respected catalyst in our community. We are compassionate, courageous sowers of seeds of reconciliation and peacemaking. We are creative, strategic and effective in our educational programs and our advocacy for positive systemic change. We are an accepting, diverse organization engaging our entire community in reflection and action towards a just, nonviolent, and sustainable world.”
Peace Is The Way: Our Commitment to a Common Methodology of Relationship and Connectedness:
The Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission is a diverse, spiritually grounded, compassionate community of individuals and organizations strengthening and nurturing one another and our community as a whole. We have honest, trusting, vital, challenging and mutually beneficial relationships within our diverse community, including (but not limited to) the poor, the disadvantaged, minorities, law enforcement, the military, business, and faith organizations. We build relationships and connectedness by fostering and engaging in dialogue, restorative justice, reconciliation, compassionate listening and nonviolent conflict resolution.
Three Focus Areas of PPJPC’s Vision to be realized by 2008:
Dynamic Peacemaking
Dynamic Peacemaking is at the heart of democratic principles and is central to a healthy world. Part of the dynamic peacemaking includes: education, rallies, demonstrations, and nonviolent radical resistance. Through consciousness-raising and open dialogue we bridge racial and cultural divisions in our community. We advocate peaceful conflict resolution. Our lives are examples of peace.
Social-Economic Justice
We understand that there cannot be peace in our community or the world without social and economic justice. We address issues of justice such as racism and classism, militarism and economic conversion, privatization of essential commodities such as water and air, living/livable wages, consumer lifestyle, the negative effects of capitalism and economic globalization. We raise consciousness, organize, advocate and work with others in coalition. We model social and economic justice in our Board, Staff, and Volunteers as well as in our employment practices and our programs.
Sustainable Living
We affirm the sacredness of all creation and acknowledge the interconnectedness of all life. The natural way of our planet is balance, harmony, and renewal. The philosophy of sustainability recognizes that the Earth is endangered and promotes its healing. We educate ourselves and the community to understand the severity of our environmental crisis, to transform our lifestyles toward the beauty of natural living, and to advocate for positive systemic change. We model sustainability in our facilities, operations, and programs.
