Dynamic Peace Making
Dynamic Peacemaking is at the heart
of democratic principles and is central to a healthy world. Part of the dynamic
peacemaking includes: education, rallies, demonstrations, and nonviolent
radical resistance. Through consciousness-raising and open dialogue we bridge
racial and cultural divisions in our community. We advocate peaceful conflict
resolution. Our lives are examples of peace.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND FILM FEST & CHILI DINNER
Sunday, May 29, 4:00 - 7:00 pm, First Congregational Church, 20 East Saint Vrain
Street
(at Tejon), downtown Colorado Springs
Spc. Mark Wilkerson (US Army), returned Iraq war veteran, recently worked with
an independent filmmaker and has just completed a moving documentary
entitled,
The Cost of War. The 50-minute film, produced by New Spark Media & Arts
Collective(www.newsparkproductions.org)
in collaboration with Veterans For Peace, seeks to give voice to truth through
the experiences and observations of soldiers, veterans, and their families. It
offers a brief glimpse of the war in Iraq and its incalculable human, personal,
psychological and social costs through the perspective of those who have
experienced war first hand. A question & answer forum immediately follows the
screening featuring Spc. Wilkerson and other veterans. Copies of the documentary
in DVD format will be available for a $20-$30 donation ($15 limited income),
with proceeds benefiting the Iraq Veterans Assistance Fund.
A fundraising chili dinner (vegetarian and meat) will be served during a
half-hour intermission.
A second documentary feature, Operation Dire Distress, will commence at 6:00 pm.
The hour-long video documents the Veterans March that was a part of Operation
Dire Distress (ODD) and took place on March 23, 2003 in Washington, D.C. ODD
actions included a nationally broadcast teach-in, this massive demonstration,
and mass lobbying of Congress over a three day period just as the invasion of
Iraq was beginning. Most importantly, this newly released documentary heralds an
historic advance in the resurgent veterans movement against war. It is produced
by RadioFreeAmerica.TV in partnership with:
Veterans Against Iraq War (www.vaiw.org)
Veterans for Common Sense (www.veteransforcommonsense.org)
Veterans For Peace (www.veteransforpeace.org)

weekend and make it a truly meaningful holiday. Support a long established and
rapidly growing group of servicemen and women, veterans, and military families
who challenge the notion that blind loyalty in time of war is the mark of a
patriot, and who reject the claim that supporting the war is supporting the
troops.
CHENEY PROTEST AT AFA:
When: Wednesday, June 1, 2005, from 7:30-10:00 am
Where: Entrance to the North Gate, Air Force Academy (Exit 156)
Why: The socio-economic vision that Mr. Cheney adheres to is of the rich, by the
rich, and for the rich.
Join the Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission, Citizens For Peace in Space,
Springs Action Alliance, Students for Social Justice, and many others to protest
Vice President Dick Cheney in this year's AFA graduation ceremony.
Cheney's policies are destroying the Earth far faster and more overtly than any
previous administration ever dared. As the master of disaster, puppeteer plotter
and Halliburton hero, chickenhawk Cheney tries to draw attention away from his
corporate misdeeds by dragging us into a never-ending war.
Through his energy deregulation policy, he and his cohorts have bilked
California billions of dollars. As war profiteer, Mr. Cheney still receives
$160,000 from Halliburton in deferred payments, and it is in his best interest
that his former corporation perform well. It is time that we intensified our
resistance to injustices done by our government, in our names, by corporate
crooks like Cheney and start becoming involved in shaping a sustainable vision
for the human race. The truth of the matter is that the planet cannot survive
our inaction, and we must to put an end to politics of hate and fear.
